Our bodies have the ability to heal themselves.  We just need the right tools.

My journey to holistic medicine began when I was struck by a car while bicycling.  For 10 years I struggled with chronic debilitating back and neck pain.  Up until this point I had lived a life of physical exercise and Outdoor adventure.   I was working with Outward Bound spending my days and nights backpacking the mountains in Maryland and Virgina, sailing the Chesapeake Bay, and canoeing the rivers of Florida. Out in the wilderness for a month at a time  with troubled youth and school groups.  My 'vacation' was leading bike tours through the mountains of Vermont and Maine.  Not to mention my bike ride across the country to raise awareness for issues facing young girls (Girls on the Move).  I had the perfect life and I loved every minute. I lived for every new adventure

After being rear ended by a car, I had high hopes in Western Medicine.  I can't even tell you how much money and time I spent on physical therapy, cortisone injections, nerve burns, chiropractors and medication.  As time went by,  I lost count of how many physical therapists gave up on me and told me there was nothing more they could do.  Anyone who has suffered from chronic pain knows that there are many side effects that come from the pain as well as the medications and procedures.  First comes the sadness, then comes the brain fog, insomnia, indigestion, constipation.....and the lethargy.... oh the lethargy,   You are trapped in a body that has become torturous.

Of course, I could no longer work for Outward Bound so I decided to get a great paying job with great health benefits (to pay my medical bills).   The best paying job I knew about was pharmaceutical sales.  So I ended up with Merck Pharmaceuticals selling all classes of medications.  Now that is a story for another time.  Needless to say, my physical adventures had ended.

After 10 years of constant pain, a friend told me about an acupuncture physician.  Hey it was covered by my health insurance, and I had already tried everything else.  Why not.

My Acupuncturist saved my life!  Within weeks I was feeling much better.  Not only had my pain improved but my digestion, sleep, and brain fog were improving.  I finally had energy to do more!   Within just a few months my pain was completely gone!  I started riding my bike again!  I had the energy to hang out with my friends!

My experience was so incredible that I wanted to share this with others.  There is hope!  I quit my job as a pharmaceutical rep and went back to school to become a Doctor of Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture Physician.  It is a decision I have never regretted!  I am spending my days helping others get back their lives!  I even took up a new sport  at the age of 38...Surfing!  So if you can't find me at the office, I am probably in the ocean with my husband Joey.
